A West Virginia Division of Highways worker was injured after being struck by a vehicle Friday in Braxton County. A DOH employee was patching potholes along Interstate 79 when they were struck in the arm by a car, according to a news release from the West Virginia Department of Transportation. The news release said the vehicle went through the pothole that was being patched, bruising the worker, who was treated and released from a nearby hospital. Transportation Secretary Jimmy Wriston issued the call for alertness in work zones, and sent the reminder to slow down. The DOT reports five people were killed in work zone crashes on West Virginia highways in 2023.
