Today is the deadline to apply for FEMA assistance

After two months of being stationed in Chesapeake in Eastern Kanawha County, FEMA’s disaster recovery center closed on Friday for good. Still, people in Kanawha, Harrison, Calhoun, Clay and Boone counties who were impacted by the August 2023 flooding have until Monday, April 1 to apply. So far, FEMA has distributed $2 million in assistance to about 250 households. There were more than 600 registrations. FEMA is still encouraging people who were denied to reach out with questions because it has often been a mistake or missing documentation that stood between assistance and denial. Flood victims can contact the organization by calling 1-800-621-3362 or get more information online.
