Two parents in Mingo County are in jail after deputies said their two toddlers were living in inhumane conditions and not receiving medical care for serious illnesses.
23-year old Katie Jo Meade and 24-year old Curtis Meade, both of Matewan, face charges after deputies responded to the couple’s apartment on Indian Summer Lane on Monday. An EMS worker, who is a mandatory reporter under state law, notified officers of observations they made inside the apartment while performing a call for service. Officers observed dirt and feces, and a 3-years-old, had bite marks from bugs and roaches. Both children were placed in the custody of CPS and taken to the hospital for medical treatment which later determined they had bronchitis and rhinovirus.
