A mother and daughter accused in a child and animal neglect investigation in Mingo County are making their way through the court process. 63-year old Sharon Simpson and 37-year old Christi Hatfield, both of Williamson were arrested May 7 at an apartment building on West 4th Avenue. The mother and daughter lived in separate apartments in the building, according to family members who said the children were in Simpson’s apartment. Eyewitness News reported that four emaciated dogs were also found in the home too. Simpson’s case was continued so she could receive a mental evaluation, while Hatfield’s hearing was waived and the case was transferred to circuit court to be heard by a grand jury.
