State makes changes to high school football ranking system

High school sports officials in West Virginia approved changes to the state’s football ranking system and modified a rule dealing with lopsided games. Football teams will now receive one bonus point for wins regardless of the classification of their opponent, according to a news release from the West Virginia Secondary School Activities Commission. The previous rule only allowed for bonus points if the win was over a team in the same classification or higher. State officials also approved a modification to a rule for shortening games, now allowing for a rolling clock in the third quarter if a team has or gets a 42-point lead. The changes will begin this fall.
