State officials will be hosting a meeting in Charleston Saturday to help families interested in the Hope Scholarship. On May 11, Hope Scholarship Board staff will be at the Kanawha County Public Library’s main branch from 10 am to 4 pm to assist parents looking to apply. Last school year, more than 5,000 scholarships were awarded, providing funding for students opting to leave the public school system in favor of homeschooling or private institutions. The controversial program was fought in court as the state Board of Education alleged it unconstitutionally took money from public school systems, but has gained popularity since it was established in 2021.
