The battle for an open Kanawha County Commission seat is clearer after the primary election on Tuesday. Former state senator Chris Walters won the Republican bid for the seat while Natalie Tennant won the Democratic nod. Walters left the legislature in 2017 and ran an insurance business in the Charleston area prior to his run for commission. Tennant is the former West Virginia Secretary of State who served the position from 2009-17, during which she ran for the U.S. Senate in 2014. She has also run a consulting and public speaking company. Tennant and Walters will compete for the position left open by Kent Carper, who resigned from the commission on Friday.
