WIC cash value will now extend to farmer’s markets

A change to the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infant and Children will expand acceptance to farmers markets. The West Virginia Department of Health said the WIC cash value will now allow recipients to purchase fresh produce at local farmers markets beginning June 1. The new expansion will allow for a direct transfer from participants to farmers which will eliminate check processing fees. These changes come just a month after state officials announced an increased budget and expansion of benefits to low-income families.
