Concealed carry starts today on WVU Campuses

Beginning today, for the first time, concealed carry permit holders will be officially allowed to carry concealed handguns on West Virginia public college and university campuses. In order to implement this, colleges have been preparing to add new features to be in compliance. At West Virginia University, they have installed two gun locker rooms in Brooke Tower and Summit Hall for people who live on campus to store their guns. Students can request a locker for $140 a semester. They have also purchased new metal detectors, wands and have added new signage to doors and buildings where guns are not allowed. When the legislature passed Senate Bill 10 in 2023, it came with no funding. According to WVU officials, they are expecting to spend about $1 million across all of their campuses to implement this.
