Governor Jim Justice is expecting a budget surplus as the fiscal year draws to a close this Sunday, June 30. It’s a goal of the governor to eliminate the state income tax all together, but this time around he said the state is unlikely to see the 10% cut to the personal income tax he had been hoping for. He said at a weekly news conference that the state will have around $800 million in surplus dollars. At least some of the surplus money could go for infrastructure and roads, but a plan hasn’t been finalized yet.
