Jackson County Schools announce a crackdown on homeschool rule enforcement

Eyewitness News said Jackson County Schools will take parents to court if they fail to submit required homeschool assessments. The decision comes after the death of a Boone County teen which has raised concerns about kids falling through cracks in the system. Jackson County Schools Superintendent William Hosaflook said if he doesn’t get the required homeschool assessment due at the end of the month from parents with homeschoolers in the 3rd, 5th, 8th and 11th grades, that failure will likely prompt legal action. State law says school systems may act to return the student to public school if that doesn’t happen. The West Virginia Association of School Administrators is meeting in Lewis County this week and is expected to produce oversight proposals for lawmakers.
