Mountain Valley Pipeline in service

The Mountain Valley Pipeline – a 300-mile-long natural gas pipeline in parts of West Virginia and Virginia is in service as of Friday morning, according to a press release. The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission recently said the pipeline could begin transmitting natural gas, but has not yet. The pipeline is available for “interruptible or short-term firm transportation service.” U.S. Sen. Tim Kaine (D-VA) hasn’t taken a position in favor of or against the project, but he continues to have concerns about the way the project was ultimately approved through an act of Congress. “Is it ready to go or not, I don’t really know,” Kaine said during a teleconference with reporters Wednesday afternoon, “but I do know this. The process has been so flawed that the public lacks confidence in it and that’s unfortunate.”
