New training center for first responders opens in Ripley

The Walter Smittle the Third Regional Responder Training Center officially opened in Ripley Friday and will train law enforcement, medics, firefighters and dispatchers. Eyewitness News said the plan is to improve training and cut costs as the emergency services deal with a growing list of training requirements, some which haven’t been available locally. Jackson County used a variety of funding to pay for the training center including the ambulance levy and $222,000 in opioid settlement funds.
