A revised excess levy that includes full funding for parks and libraries will go before Cabell County voters during the 2024 general election. The levy will include provisions for Cabell County Schools along with funding for the Greater Huntington Park and Recreation District and Cabell County Public Library, according to a news release from the school district. In 2023, the Cabell County Board of Education voted to cut back on funding for parks and libraries. The decision was challenged in West Virginia Supreme Court and it was decided the board did not hold a constitutional obligation to distribute funding to those entities.
Earlier this month, the BOE voted to restore funding, including $1.8 million to libraries and nearly $576,000 to parks. The move was then approved by park and library board members. Voters will get to weigh in in November.
