Two Mingo County parents were charged with child neglect after an infant was brought to a local hospital with multiple bone fractures. 26-year old Carl Thomas and 22-year old Cheyanne Varney of Red Jacket, WV were charged with child neglect stemming from an investigation that began in June, according to a criminal complaint filed in Mingo County Magistrate Court. Troopers said they began investigating June 13 when they received a complaint from health workers who said a 5-week-old was brought into a Charleston hospital by Thomas and Varney with multiple fractures. The complaint said the child had several fractures to both legs, ribs and its left arm that were believed to have happened in the care of Thomas and Varney. Both Thomas and Varney are being held on $200,000 cash only bonds.
