Morgantown celebrates the legacy of Don Knotts this week

The city of Morgantown is paying tribute to West Virginia native Don Knotts. The Metropolitan Theater will be celebrating Knotts’ life and legacy through Wednesday by showing a marathon of his films and featuring special guests and performances. Sign are up along Fife Avenue, named for Knotts’ beloved character of Barney Fife on “The Andy Griffith Show,” installed by the public works department this week. A social media post from the city noted the nod to Mayberry’s deputy commemorates 100 years since Knott’s birth in Morgantown on July 21, 1924. The actor and comedian was also known for his role of Ralph Furley on the popular sitcom “Three’s Company” along with dozens of other projects.
