Woman who suffered catastrophic injuries at the hands of her brother has died

A woman who awakened from a two-year coma in 2022 to identify her brother as the person who brutally beat her has died. 53-year old Wanda Palmer of Ravenswood died on July 12 at WVU Thomas Memorial Hospital, according to an obituary. Jackson County Sherriff Ross Mellinger also confirmed Palmer’s death, noting that if her brother, Daniel Palmer III, was still alive, his indictment could be superseded on a murder charge for her death. In July 2022, Palmer III was charged with attempted murder and malicious wounding for the June 2020 attack. He was in poor health and died a week after his arrest. Palmer never recovered from her injuries and remained under medical care until her death last week.
