Eyewitness News picks up a prestigious award

It’s a big honor for a local TV station. Eyewitness News picked up a National Edward R. Murrow Award, which is considered to be among the most respected journalism honors in the world. WCHS for its 2023 story of how serial rapist Charles Woods Sr. could have been stopped years earlier. Assistant news director and reporter Leslie Rubin’s story details how plea deals enabled him to continue sexually assaulting women for several years after an initial rape in 2001.
While WCHS as a station was the recipient of the national award for Hard News in Small Market Television, Rubin, photographer Matt Durrett and former chief photographer Larry Clark were largely responsible for the work.
