A man charged in connection with a double murder in Charleston that included a child has been found competent to stand trial. Nicholas Hanshaw of South Charleston was indicted in March for the murder of an adult woman and 10-year-old child who were found dead inside a Charleston home in December 2023.
Police said an investigation was launched after Hanshaw showed up at a Kanawha County car dealership, saying he needed a vehicle because he had killed two people. Investigators said two victims with stab wounds were found at a Dorchester Road residence. They were later identified as Richie Hancock, 10, and Sherry Russell, 62. Russell had custody the child and was Hanshaw’s mother.His trial has been at for Nov. 12.
