Second teen to be tried as an adult in Caden Martin murder case

A second 14-year-old boy will be tried as an adult for the murder of a Charleston tobacco shop worker earlier this year. 14-year old Barack Williams had his case moved to adult status following a hearing that spanned over the course of two days this week in front of Kanawha County Circuit Court Judge Maryclaire Akers. This is the first time Williams’ name has been made public as the second juvenile charged in the murder of 19-year old Caden Martin. Williams is charged with first-degree robbery and felony murder. 14-year old Bre’juan Williams-Hampton has already had first-degree murder and robbery charges moved from juvenile to adult status. He was set to enter a guilty plea in the case in June but the plea deal fell apart moments before the hearing. Eyewitness News said he is now set to appear back in court on Sept. 9. Martin’s murder happened at the Tobacco & Pipe shop in the 2000 block of Seventh Avenue on Jan. 30.
