The Williamson Daily News reported last week the council would be holding an emergency session to accept the resignation of interim mayor Joseph Bucci. Monday made the second time the quorum wasn’t met to accept the resignation and the meeting was rescheduled for Tuesday. Eyewitness News said the ordeal began in May when Charles Hatfield resigned due to a federal embezzlement investigation from his time as CEO at Williamson Memorial Hospital. After that, council members weren’t able to agree on a candidate for mayor. City code dictated that Alma Smith, city clerk, fill the role. Smith handed the role to councilmember Joseph Bucci a week later. Bucci’s time as mayor was expected to last until a new candidate was elected in November.
