Williamson residents are left with more questions than answers regarding their city council following the third rescheduled meeting to discuss an interim mayor. The city council on Tuesday determined naming a new interim mayor didn’t constitute an emergency session and instead decided it should be a special session. This all started last week when it was reported that interim mayor Joseph Bucci was resigning from the position. This came after longtime mayor Charlie Hatfield stepped down due to a federal embezzlement investigation regarding his time at Williamson Memorial Hospital. The meeting set for last Friday lacked quorum and was unable to be held. The same issue happened again Monday. Williamson City Attorney Nathan Brown told Eyewitness News he doesn’t have an exact reason for the resignations, but he doesn’t believe it was for any negative reason.
The session to accept Bucci’s resignation is rescheduled for this morning (Friday).
