Kanawha Valley RTA votes to discontinue Sunday service

Board members for the Kanawha Valley Regional Transportation Authority voted Thursday morning to eventually discontinue Sunday service. The board voted in favor of canceling the service, as well as cutting the number of runs in half on 11 low-use routes. The changes will not go into effect until February 2025. The moves come as KRT officials look to combat a $1.3 million deficit. The transportation authority has looked at various options during public hearings in recent months that also included cutting routes or operating half trips. The shortfall comes after dramatic drops in ridership following the COVID-19 pandemic, which saw pre-pandemic levels of over two million annual riders cut in half.
