Mingo County man hit by police cruiser while walking on the roadway

A Mingo County man was hospitalized after being hit by a city of Williamson Police cruiser, said West Virginia State Police. According to Sgt. Jamie Harris of the WVSP, it happened around 11:30 Thursday night in the lanes heading north on 119 in the Delbarton area, north of Scarlett Road. Sgt. Harris said that the victim was walking in the roadway in the construction zone when he was hit. He is in the intensive care unit at the hospital in critical but stable condition. The officer was driving a cruiser with a brush guard on the front at the time of the incident. Another officer was in the front seat and had a passenger who was under arrest in the back seat. Sgt. Harris said the results of reconstruction and investigative report, which will help determine the speed at the time of the accident, will take a few weeks.
