State officials have announced an enforcement campaign to urge drivers to stop speeding. That’s according to a news release from the West Virginia Governor’s Highway Safety Program. The high visibility campaign will begin with a statewide enforcement event from 4 to 8 p.m. today. Law enforcement agencies throughout the state will continue the enforcement through Sept. 22, aiming to urge drivers to follow speed limits. “Speed limit signs are not suggestions, they are the law,” Jack McNeely, Director of the GHSP, said in a statement. “They are posted for the safety of the driver and others in that particular area.” According to the news release, 27% of car crash fatalities were speed related and 16% of which were motorcyclists.
