Bluestone Dam does its job holding back recent floodwaters

Hundreds of trees and personal belongings of flood victims continue to pile up behind the Bluestone Dam, but the river has crested in West Virginia, according to the Corps of Engineers. The dam did its job protecting the downstream area, including Charleston, as it dealt with water from heavy rains in West Virginia and even heavier ones in North Carolina and Virginia.The lake climbed more than 80 feet to its third-highest level ever. The New River, and water from the Bluestone Dam, eventually move becomes the Kanawha River.
