Childcare tax credit bill goes to the governor’s desk

The West Virginia Senate passed a bill that will provide personal income tax credits for child care in the state. House Bill 226 passed the Senate by a 29-1 vote after a third reading. The House of Delegates passed the legislation 88-3. The bill would allow for a personal income tax credit of 50% of the allowed federal tax credit. Under the legislation, a family receiving a $1,000 tax credit would additionally receive a $500 tax credit on their West Virginia state income taxes. Once signed by the governor, the bill will be retroactive to the beginning of 2024.
