A Charleston man accused of dropping his juvenile son off to walk alone on a busy Kanawha County road has been charged. 63-year old Andrew J. Katz of Charleston is charged with one count of child neglect after an incident Sunday in the Cross Lanes area where his 12-year-old son was found apparently hitchhiking, according to a criminal complaint filed in Kanawha County Magistrate Court.
Deputies said a passerby spotted the child and stopped to help when he told the driver that he walked to Wal-Mart after being dropped off by his father. The driver gave the boy a ride to a nearby gas station and called 911. The juvenile was taken into custody by Child Protective Services.
