The attorney general of West Virginia has filed a lawsuit against a Parkersburg substance abuse treatment facility accused of filing false claims to the state’s Medicaid program. The Clean & Clear Advantage, which runs a substance abuse treatment center in Parkersburg, is accused of submitting fraudulent claims to Medicaid from May 2021 through January 2022, according to a news release from West Virginia Attorney General Patrick Morrisey’s office. A former employee of the facility, Clifford Marlowe, also has been indicted by a Wood County grand jury on two felony counts of Medicaid fraud and fraudulent schemes. Those claims were for services allegedly rendered to 52 patients by an unqualified employee, The claims totaled over $78,000, but the attorney general’s office is seeking three times that amount in the lawsuit against the facility.
