Raleigh County’s embattled prosecuting attorney has resigned and said he will refuse to take the office if elected in the general election next month. Benjamin Hatfield submitted his resignation Friday in a letter to commission president Greg Duckworth. The commission had voted Oct. 10 to begin the process of removing Hatfield “due to official misconduct and neglect of duty.” Tom Truman has assumed the role of acting prosecuting attorney until the commission schedules a special meeting.
