Board is considering consolidating schools in Clay County

Education officials were in Clay County Tuesday to discuss consolidation efforts amid a steady drop in student enrollment. The Board of Education is discussing whether to close Clay County Middle School and consolidate with Clay Elementary, Big Otter Elementary and Clay County High School. Eyewitness News said the plan hinges on funding from the West Virginia School Building Authority. If approved by the board, Clay Middle would close at the end of the 2026-27 school year. The BOE is scheduled to meet again on Tuesday, Dec. 6.
