Charleston police officer faces a DUI charge

A Charleston police officer who is currently on paid administrative leave due to a domestic violence case was arrested for driving under the influence Friday night.
Christopher Johnson of South Charleston was taken into custody after police pulled him over on the 4000 block of MacCorkle Avenue SW on suspicion of DUI. The car was driving 10 miles per hour under the listed speed limit, according to court documents. Once stopped, police approached Johnson to inquire if he had consumed any alcohol in which he admitted to having drinks with his dinner. He agreed to a field sobriety test but ultimately failed. Eyewitness News reported that in October, Johnson’s ex-girlfriend filed charges against him after she provided police with a video of Johnson in a dispute over a car before striking her. Initially the case was dropped after the victim failed to appear in court, but the charges were refiled. Johnson posted a $1,5000 personal recognizance bond.
