Republican Patrick Morrisey, who is currently the state’s attorney general, defeated Democrat Steve Williams in the governor’s race.
Republican incumbent Carol Miller retained her seat in the U.S. House of Representatives. Miller has held the position since 2019 and represents counties including Kanawha, Lincoln, Logan, Jackson, Fayette, Mingo and Putnam.
Republican Patrick Farrell narrowly defeated Democrat Jennifer Wheeling for Huntington mayor. He received 7,305 votes to Wheeler’s 6,873. Jay Michaels, an independent, received 799 votes. Farrell will fill the position left behind by longtime Democratic mayor Steve Williams, who lost his gubernatorial bid.
Current West Virginia State Auditor John “JB” McCuskey won his bid for state attorney general, defeating Democrat Teresa Toriseva with 70% of the vote.
Republican Kris Warner won his bid for West Virginia Secretary of State. Warner was previously appointed to lead the West Virginia Department of Agriculture and was later appointed to lead the state’s Economic Development Authority. Warner defeated Democrat Thornton Cooper with 71% of the vote.
Republican Riley Moore won the race for U.S. House District 2 in West Virginia. Moore defeated Democrat Steven Wendelin for the seat, which is being vacated by Alex Mooney.
