Judge rejects a motion to move Julie Miller’s trial out of Boone County

A Boone County judge denied a motion to move the trial of a mother accused of starving her teenage child to death and not providing her medical care before her death out of the county. Eyewitness News said Julie Miller’s attorney, Ronald Walters, Jr., argued that Miller could not receive a fair trial in the county due to media coverage. The judge rejected the lawyer’s argument that social media comments would have an impact on the trial, and she questioned if the pervasiveness of the media coverage of the case focused more on the issues that had played out regarding Child Protective Services and the West Virginia State Police rather than on his client. The three defedants in the case, Miller and her parents, are expected to stand trial together in December.
