Natalie Tennant makes history with election win

After an overnight recount of early votes due to technical issues, Natalie Tennant prevailed in a historic, tight race for Kanawha County Commission. Tennant, a Democrat, defeated Republican Chris Walters by 717 votes. She will be the first woman on the commission in the county’s history. The recount of more than 31,000 early votes came after officials found a corrupted data stick from early voting. That led election officials to have to re-run all the ballots through the machines to verify they matched the generated paper ballots. Tennant will fill the seat left by longtime commissioner Kent Carper’s departure.
