Safety is a concern in Marmet after a string of break-ins

Marmet homeowners said they’re fed up with a rise in break-ins across the town in a meeting held Wednesday evening. Eyewitness News said frustrated residents gathered at the Marmet Women’s Club to brainstorm how to protect themselves. Eyewitness News said Marmet has not had a 24/7 police department in years. Mayor Dave Fontalbert said they have trouble recruiting officers, sometimes leaving streets unpatrolled by city police. Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office and State Police are tasked with responding to calls. Mayor Fontalbert said he wanted to create a citizen action group to patrol the streets at night. The town has a city council meeting was planned for Nov. 18th where Fontalbert said he plans to propose schedule adjustments and citizen patrol groups to help with resident safety.
