Student is found with a gun in his backpack at a Randolph County School

A Randolph County student was arrested after a loaded gun was found in a backpack Thursday afternoon. West Virginia State Police and deputies responded to a call regarding a firearm at Tygart’s Valley Middle-High School where a search revealed a .45 caliber firearm, according to a news release from the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office. A prevention resource officer responded, and later the student was taken to an emergency detention hearing in Randolph County Circuit Court before moving to a juvenile detention center.
