Wayne County teen faces arson and murder charges

A man has been charged after investigators said a drug deal went bad and ended with a fire in Wayne County. Court records show 19-year old Daryl Riggs is charged with second-degree murder and first-degree arson in an Oct. 28 fire where a 65-year-old man was found dead. Riggs told investigators he went to the man’s home in the 2100 block of Mill Creek Road to allegedly buy marijuana when a physical altercation occurred, according to the criminal complaint filed in Wayne County Magistrate Court. Deputies said Riggs told them the man allegedly cut him with a knife before he took control of it and cut the man about three times in the abdomen before he ran off. When investigators asked Riggs about a fire at the home the next day, Riggs told them he had to do it. Eyewitness News said he told deputies he believed the man was dead when he set the fire, but was “guessing.”
Riggs is currently being held without bond.
