Indiana woman enters guilty plea in Fayette County murder case

An Indiana woman pleaded guilty of first-degree murder on Friday in connection to a 2023 murder, robbery and kidnapping. Eyewitness News said 32-year old Amanda Soultz of Elkhart, Indiana was convicted after she and Andres Torres kidnapped, robbed and killed Michelle Smith. Fayette County prosecutors said Soultz and Torres needed money when they arrived in Fayette County in January 2023, Torres subsequently sold a watch to Smith, an acquaintance, for $50. After buying the watch, Smith listed it on Facebook Marketplace which angered Torres and Soultz, which led to a shooting on Feb. 16. Smith was discovered by her son 12 hours after the shooting. She died on March 31 of the gunshot wound. As a part of her plea-deal, Soulz would be sentenced to life in prison with parole eligibility coming after 15 years served She is scheduled to be sentenced on Feb. 11.
