Kanawha County Republican Mike Stuart, a former U.S. Attorney under President Trump, will serve as Chair of the Senate Judiciary Committee, according to a news release from the chamber. The news release said incoming senator Tom Willis, R-Berkley, will fill the role of vice chairman. Stuart released a statement following Monday’s appointment. My priorities are very clear – a conservative agenda focused on the safety and security of the citizens of West Virginia, greater transparency in government, enhancement of personal liberties and maintenance of the rule of law. My priorities and focus are effectively advancing and strengthening the best interests of the people of West Virginia. The announcement came from Senate President-elect Randy Smith, who called the appointment an “easy choice.”
