Raleigh County deputy suffers minor injuries in shooting

A man is dead after shooting a deputy in a confrontation in Raleigh County Friday morning. According to a statement from the Raleigh County Sheriff’s Office, a 911 call came in at about 9 a.m. reporting a “mentally disturbed individual” with a gun in the residential community of Breckenridge Village in Bolt. Deputies said the suspect immediately opened fire when they arrived, injuring the responding deputy who then returned fire, killing the suspect. The injured deputy was taken to the hospital with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound. The incident is currently under investigation by the Raleigh County Sheriff’s Office detectives and West Virginia State Police.
