Rand woman faces charges in an animal cruelty case

A Rand woman has been arrested and charged with 10 counts of animal cruelty after a humane officer found nine puppies and a dog malnourished in a home in deplorable condition. 30-year old Ashley Rhodes was arrested following an investigation that began earlier this month, according to a criminal complaint from Kanawha County Magistrate Court. A humane officer with the Kanawha-Charleston Humane Association contacted the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office after several complaints that a dog was limping and appeared to be malnourished in the 5100 block of Raven Drive in Rand. Neighbors said the home had no electricity or water. Rhodes told investigators she owned the dog and the nine puppies, relinquished her rights and signed over the dog and the puppies. She is being held in South Central Regional Jail on a $8,000 surety/cash bond.
