A child died in a house fire overnight Friday in the Parkersburg area, investigators said. The 12-year-old boy was killed in the fire about 12:40 a.m. at a home on Elder Street, according to a news release from the West Virginia State Fire Marshal’s Office. Firefighters responded and extinguished the blaze when they found the victim. Investigators were then called to the scene to determine the cause of the fire, the news release said. The boy’s body was taken to the state medical examiner’s office for autopsy and identification. An investigation into the incident is ongoing.
