The residency of a newly elected commissioner in Wayne County has been called into question. Jay Marcum said in a Wayne County court room this week that he pays rent in Kenova and sometimes he travels. Eyewitness News said, at the center of the issue is where Jay Marcum lived on January 27, 2024, the last day to file to run for office. Marcum said he had lived in Kenova for about a year, making him eligible to run for Wayne County Commissioner. On the other hand, his opponent and former commissioner Jeff Maddox said Marcum lived in Prichard at that time, which would disqualify him from running for commissioner on the basis of residency because the commissioner in that district was not up for election. Marcum was elected to the Wayne County Commission in November and he was sworn into office in December. He said that he did everything he was required to do according to the law. This matter is expected to be resolved sometime in the next few weeks.
