The West Virginia Public Employees Insurance Agency is under new leadership.
Brian Cunningham resigned from his position as director of PEIA, according to the West Virginia Governor’s Office. Eyewitness News reported PEIA’s chief financial officer Jason Haught has stepped in as acting director. Cunningham, who helped guide the agency through financial strain, resigned on Jan. 10, just days before new Gov. Patrick Morrisey projected the next fiscal year to begin with a $400 million deficit. The governor indicated PEIA and education were key contributors to the projected deficit. Last month, PEIA’s finance board approved a plan to increase premiums and deductibles in 2025.
