Sam Minardi, a Democrat that represented Ward 15, has announce he would resign from the Charleston City Council on Friday after serving more than 13 years in the Council Chamber. Minardi most recently won his bid for reelection in 2022. He is a small business owner and first joined the city council in 2011. Said Minardi “Being a part of the Charleston City Council for over a decade was a true honor and I can’t even begin to tell you how hard of a decision this has been to step away because despite my complaining I really do love it” Minardi didn’t give specific reasons in his statement for his resignation, he said that it was a difficult decision and that he has already made Mayor Amy Goodwin aware ahead of her State of the City address on Monday.
