City officials take steps to mitigate flooding with the latest storm

Huntington Mayor Patrick Farrell is urging caution after several inches of rain over the weekend. According to a social media post from Farrell, the Ohio River is expected to crest at 48-50 feet soon, and in preparation, the city has closed the floodwall at Harris Riverfront Park and started operation for all 17 pump stations, including Krout Creek in Westmoreland. Crews also cleared debris from Fourpole Creek at Wilsons Court, which is prone to flooding. The mayor also announced that the city aims to develop a long-term solution through work with the U.S. Army Corps to study flood mitigation for the Fourpole Creek watershed, pending federal funding.
