Scams are targeting the flood relief effort, what to know

West Virginia officials are warning residents of scam calls from imposters attempting to collect donations for flood relief. A news release from Attorney General JB McCuskey pointed to the idea that criminals will prey on the generosity of West Virginians, and you should make sure that any charity or organization seeking donations is registered with the state government and the proper agencies. That can be confirmed via charitynavigator.org or guidestar.org. McCuskey also urges residents who have been a victim of the scams to contact the Attorney General’s Consumer Protection Division at 1-800-368-8808 or file a complaint online.
