A state audit requested by Ravenswood officials shows the city lacked adequate oversight, records and sometimes did not use the internal controls it had to keep track of finances in fiscal year 2023. The city responded, noting some of its problems have been resolved by getting rid of the Ravenswood Development Authority. In June 2024, the city council sent a letter to then councilwoman Denise Toler, who was also the key player at the development authority, that her admission to “felonious embezzlement and forgery of documents” meant she needed to resign, which she eventually did. Toler has not been charged with a crime. Mayor Josh Miller told Eyewitness News he hopes the auditor’s office will make a personal appearance at an April 15 council meeting where the audit is scheduled for public discussion. Miller is also withholding some responses to the auditor, citing the same concern about impeding the criminal investigation.
