Two people were taken to the hospital after a fire at an apartment complex in Cabell County early Tuesday morning. The fire broke out at a building on Garden Park Drive in East Pea Ridge near Barboursville and displaced dozens of people. Eyewitness News reported that a Barboursville firefighter was taken to a hospital with a neck injury after a section of structure came down and landed on him and nearby parked cars. A tenant of the apartment building was also taken to a local hospital in critical but stable condition with burns and smoke inhalation. Twenty four apartment units were damaged. The West Virginia State Fire Marshal’s office is investigating the cause of the fire while the American Red Cross is helping those who have been displaced.
